Compress and resize images for Instagram

What is the best image size for Instagram?

1080 px wide. Use 1080×1080 for square, 1080×1350 for portrait (4:5), 1080×566 for landscape and 1080×1920 for Stories and Reels. Instagram downsizes anything larger.

Why do my photos look blurry after uploading?

Instagram recompresses uploads, and heavy files get compressed the hardest. Uploading a 1080 px wide JPG at 80–90% quality, under about 1 MB, gives Instagram less to do and keeps the photo sharp.

Does compressing reduce quality?

At 80–85% JPG quality the difference is invisible for photos while the file is 3–5× smaller. Use the compare slider to check, and PNG if you need lossless output.

Is the file size limit guaranteed?

The tool lowers quality step by step and then gently downscales until the file fits under your limit. In rare cases with tiny limits it stops at a sensible minimum and reports the result.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Resizing and compression run in your browser, and metadata such as location is removed in the process.
